4th LNT Post of 2019-Rebar

Rebar is great for holding down your camp during the event, but it is possibly the worst MOOP if you don't pull it out and take it with you. Remember that after the event the playa becomes a highway. Hitting a piece of rebar at 60 mph, whether still stuckĀ  in the ground or loose on the playa can result in a blown tire at best and a fatality at worst. Some years I have found as many as 10 still buried rebars. We do keep track of who camps where and rebar left in the playa will make us consider whether you will be welcome back in Hushville in future years.

If you are having trouble pulling up rebar ask a neighboring camp or a Flounder for help. I personally have had very good luck with a vise grip tool and STRONGLY suggest that if you are using rebar in your camp have one in your tool kit. I also bring a six foot pry bar for really stubborn pieces. Others bring a stake puller, many variations are available on the interweb.
