Nevada Temporary Food Permit Requirements
If you wish to share, gift or serve food and/or non-alcoholic beverages to the public or general population at the Burning Man event, regardless of the number served; or if you will be serving food or non-alcoholic beverages to more than 125 people in your camp, a temporary food permit is required from the Central Nevada Health District (CNHD), per Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 446.870.
Please note that starting in 2024 the CNHD is approving food permits for Burning Man.
The following food items are exempt from permitting requirements:
· Alcoholic beverages
· Foods not requiring refrigeration that are commercially prepared and prepackaged that will be served unopened in the single-serve size packaging. Examples of these foods include unopened packages of candy, single-serve sized bags of chips, pretzels, snack bars, cookies, or nuts, cans of soda, and bottled water
· Whole uncut fruit
· Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate prepared from commercial, packaged products and commercially bottled water which are served without any milk, dairy, or reconstituted dairy; using only powdered non-dairy creamer or ultra-pasteurized dairy creamer in individual servings
· Commercially prepared acidic beverages, such as orange juice or lemonade, served from their original container without the addition of ice or other foods
· Commercially prepared, prepackaged, and unopened individual ice cream bars
Any public food service or sharing of food outside of the exempted foods, regardless of the number of people served requires a temporary food permit. Also, food service for 125 or more people in your theme camp requires a temporary food permit.
Information on how to apply and the Burning Man specific food permit application will be available at https://www.centralnevadahd.org/burning-man-landing-page/
This website is still under construction, please check it periodically for updates about the food permit application process. Application deadlines for this year will be announced via the Placement Newsletter.
